Savor the Bean

Savour the Bean
To begin one’s day with coffee is a quintessential morning affair for people all around the world. This ritual awakens the senses in an enjoyable and efficient manner, enveloping us with rich aromas and flavours that heighten alertness and lift the spirits. The bold buzz one feels from caffeine is desirable early on in the day, but perhaps less so when you want to unwind.
If only you could ‘Savour the bean…without the buzz!
Nespresso – the pioneer of portioned coffee, always offered a decaffeinated range but only recently released three of their Grand Crus favourites without caffeine. The new coffees have been especially created to match the exceptional character and aroma of their original Grand Cru alter egos, just without the caffeine. The new decaffeinated range offers coffee lovers the opportunity to enjoy coffee any time of the day or night without compromising on taste.
Local research conducted by Nespresso, revealed that 82% of Australian coffee drinkers don’t believe decaf coffee tastes as good as regular coffee. However, in a recent blind taste test, Australian coffee lovers found no significant difference between the aroma, flavour, smoothness or aftertaste of the decaffeinated coffee, compared to a caffeinated Nespresso coffee. Plus almost 50 per cent of those surveyed said coffees from the new Nespresso Decaffeinato range were as good as or better than their usual coffee.
Nespresso aims to deliver an extraordinary coffee experience cup after cup guaranteeing the highest quality and the new decaffeinated range is no exception. Decaffeination is a process that happens prior to roasting the green coffee. The process consists of dissolving, then removing caffeine from the green coffee bean, either with a solvent or with water.
The Nespresso decaffeinated Grands Crus are decaffeinated using two different processes. Neither process alters the coffee’s natural quality:
1. The water decaffeination process uses water to remove the caffeine. When the water comes into contact with the coffee, the caffeine contained in the coffee beans is dissolved gradually. This process removes caffeine without altering the taste of the coffee.
2. In the carbon dioxide method, the raw, unroasted coffee is soaked in water, and then liquid carbon dioxide (one of the key constitutes of air) is used to draw the caffeine out of the bean.
Both of these methods are completely safe for coffee drinkers. The processes respect the environment and the coffee bean’s true nature, allowing Nespresso to maintain the strength, variety and richness of its aromas for consumers. The Nespresso decaffeinated range comes from the same highest quality green coffee beans and undergoes the same quality controls as other Grand Cru coffees – physical, sensorial and sustainable.
The new decaffeinated range is easily distinguished thanks to the striking red dot on top of the capsule. It is available now from Nespresso Boutiques, the Nespresso Club and online at www.nespresso.com.
