LED Technology, Energy Saving Initiatives and The Value of Light dominate discussion and display at next years International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) Enlighten Europe Conference. The event is part of The ARC Show 2011 held at The Business Design Centre from 12-13 January 2011.
A prestigious line-up of experts will gather to showcase sustainable innovations in lighting and discuss how their cutting-edge technology and savvy design can produce commercial and environmentally friendly results.
Amongst exhibit highlights is an exclusive new interactive feature entitled NightSeeing™. This two-part guide to a city’s nocturnal lighting environment, includes an hour-long evening walk led by world renowned Urban Lighting Artist Leni Schwendinger.
Part one ‘LightTalk’ educates delegates on the systems that light UK cities followed by ‘LightWalk’ where Schwendinger will decode the shadows, emanations and reflections that define the nightscape, from shop silhouettes and signage to streetlights and the phantom photons of passing cars.
Leni, who has over 20 years experience as a lighting designer and public artist, commented: “The NightSeeing™ programme opens people’s eyes to an existing night-time environment as well as providing an overview of lighting theory”.
“Lighting designers work with architects, landscape architects, engineers and other urban design professionals to illuminate city structures and locations such as buildings, bridges, parks and streets, to make these sites visible and safe to walk at night. The NightSeeing™ programme focuses on an ever expanding variety of luminous possibilities”.
IALD are global leaders in setting the standard for lighting design excellence, cultivating the universal acknowledgement and appreciation of the Power of Light in human life. The ARC Show is UK’s only trade event dedicated to showing the latest architectural lighting products.
