The film folks at Aardaman are in the midst of making a movie with a difference…
The Tate Movie Project will be the first film made for and by children from all over the UK, who will contribute drawings, sounds, animations and script ideas to the animated movie. The website for the project launched in July and we already have over 6,000 members of ‘film crew’ who will help create the film, which will be released in summer 2011.
Aardaman are working on the script at the moment; and have built an invisible narrative structure (like a scaffold) putting out questions on the website asking for the children to fill in the content. A recent question was, “What does the Hero love most in the World?” Children replied with 311 answers; these included: the banana of freedom, a doughnut from the supermarket, magic socks, magic potions, precious lockets and a golden fish finger. Aardaman will then select what works from this huge and brilliantly funny cache of content and weave it into the story so far.
The fun bit will be matching these ideas with some of the hero characters that have emerged from the first art question, where children were asked to “Draw the Good Guys”. The studio was supplied with hundreds of brilliant characters including Firey Jeff, Superlight and Daniel the Brave. They also asked mini movie makers for an “Amazing Vehicle” for the hero of the film to get around in, and were sent pirate ships, a marine plane and a wedding car amongst other excellent creations…
