Cool Gifts for Daring Moms
Want an original gift for Mothers Day?
Have an adventurous mom who likes to explore, make and do daring things?
You know the type… ‘No Perfume Please!’
Well then, this roundup of rustic, rough, and real gifts ought to do the trick!
Give Mom a Good Start. www.paleoista.com
Rustic and Nourishing. Daring moms love homemade expressions of love, especially an energy-rich, rustic, full of the-good-stuff breakfast.
Triathlete and nutrition expert, Nell Stephenson knows what it takes to fuel modern moms and their mega lifestyles. In her new book ‘Pocket Paleo’ (Harlequin, 2015) Nell counters the norm for fitness fast foods, offering instead a unique collection of rustic-real-foods, portable and packed full of performance nutrients. Containing a whopping 150 recipes with meal options that travel well for office or outdoors, for downtime family dinners or pre-dawn whip-it-up-and-go workouts—it’s all covered in this delicious cookbook (a cool gift for a daring mom).
Here’s one even the littlest of kids can whip up on their own, no help needed (except a little cooking ahead of time, gratis dad!).
4 soft-boiled pastured eggs
2 cups steamed broccoli florets
1 large organic beefsteak tomato, sliced
1/2 cup freshly packed basil, torn
2 tablespoons cold-pressed extra-virgin olive oil
1 cup fresh blueberries
Salt-free garlic powder, to taste
1. Carefully tap spoon on side of egg to remove top third of egg shell, then place each egg in an egg cup.
2. Arrange half the broccoli florets on each of two plates.
3. Nestle the egg cups amongst the broccoli.
4. Arrange the tomatoes on another portion of the plate.
5. Scatter basil then drizzle olive oil on top.
6. Scatter berries on top and sift garlic powder, to taste, on top of eggs.
Get Mom Ready to Rock. www.rumbleroller.com
Rough and Relaxing. Forget lifting rocks like grecian athletes, daring moms must contend with moving objects…their kids. Lugging about the wee folk, doing the farmers walk with produce from the farmers market, or bouldering between boardroom briefs. It’s all about upper body strength and flexibility which benefits from mobility maintenance. To get mom ready to rock kit her with a Beastie and RumbleRoller for some deep tissue DIY.
We like the compact RumbleRoller which measures just 12″ in length, so it will fit easily into moms gym bag, backpack, or carry-on. The smaller diameter (5″ vs. 6″ for the full-size model) also allows it to conform better to the curvature of some body parts, such as the neck (great for daring moms who do too much desk time, or load and lug stuff about all day). If the RumbleRoller is perfect for milder massage, then the nasty but necessary benefits of a Beastie is what you need to complete this cool gift combo.
Beasties Series products don’t replace the RumbleRoller, but they are more specific in purpose. Mom can use them to dig deeper into a troublesome area, or to work with greater detail on smaller muscles like those of the forearms and calves (bouldering loves Beastie).
Bonus Buy: the RumbleRoller and Beastie both come with a User’s Guide that introduces basic concepts of self-massage, but for video instruction of specific techniques, we recommend Jeff Alexander’s SMR Tips DVD.
Gift Mom a Good Read. www.thegutsygirl.org
Real and Inspiring. Daring moms love to share their infectious curiosity and adventurous spirit with their kids—teaching them life lessons, self reliance and survival skills, encouraging them to experience the full richness of nature, to do daring things, to find meaning in mishaps, to embrace the gamut of wisdoms which only come from giving it a ‘Gutsy’ go.
In her new book ‘Gutsy Girl’ (Bloomsbury, 2016) author and adventurer, Caroline Paul shares her path from scaredy-cat to daring doer. Since deciding not to let fear get in the way of the life she wanted Caroline has been on rafting expeditions to places like Borneo, Siberia, and Australia. She has flown Cessnas and paragliders. She currently flies a contraption that looks like a hang glider with a lawn mower attached underneath. She surfs, mountain bikes, and skis badly, but with enthusiasm. And when she’s not out on a wild adventure, she’s writing books.
Through ‘Gutsy Girl’ daring moms can impart their moxie. This cool gift doubles as a bedtime book to read with the kids, and a project planner to develop their spirit and skills for adventure!
Universal Appeal: despite the girl-centric title this book is ageless and equally boy-awesome, with projects and powerful insights to embolden the gutsy in every generation and gender.
So there you have it, three cool gifts for daring moms. But of course, the ultimate gift is time. Sharing your attention is the purest form of love—creating an experience, a memory, a powerful connection… the one gift every mother desires!
