The other day I received an email from my friends at Visions of the Wild, documentary duo Florian and Emil Schulz. The award-winning photographers are nominees of the “Por El Planeta” Photo Competition, which is a non-for-profit organization and will donate 50% of the earnings to a conservation campaign after the competition closes.
Florian’s image (pictured below) is more than just a loving moment caught on film it is a telling visual befitting of its title ‘The Arctic: Facing Dramatic Change’. The photo of a mother polar bear with two cubs was selected from 28,000 images to compete for the “People’s Choice Award” and if voted the winner Florian will receive a very prominent award but more importantly, further protection for polar bears in the Arctic.
The competition is open to public voting until May 8th, so you can help us reach that goal. What a wonderful way to celebrate Mother’s Day (celebrated in Australia this weekend) with a vote for ‘The Arctic’ in tribute of the mother polar bear so lovingly caring for her cubs.
In a rapidly changing world all of our actions count as do our votes, and together we can have a vital impact on the health of our planet.
