On an expedition in endurance Melbournian Tristan Miller, will complete his fifty-second marathon in as many weeks at Albert Park with an open invitation for running enthusiasts to join him in the final chapter. It will be a fitting and emotionally-charged end to an incredibly unique and astounding journey.
In the spirit of mountaineer George Mallory’s historic quest to conquer Mt. Everest, Miller took on his own impossible challenge when he set out last December on a international multi-marathon adventure.
The IT specialist and amateur runner, first conceived his personal Everest while basking in a post-ultra-marathon glow, while reading a complimentary copy of Distance Runner magazine. ”In the middle was a massive calendar of marathons all over the world,” Miller says. ”All these things I’d love to do, all these places I’d love to see. And I thought, ‘How good would it be?’ ”
Shortly after, circumstance cemented the dream as Miller fell victim to the financial crisis and lost his job. Motivated he sold his flat to finance the worldly endeavour which he undertook with best friend and one man support crew Darren Foss.
As far as Miller knew, there were only two other people to have done 50 marathons in a year, but both of them did it within the one country. By contrast Miller’s agenda spanned the globe consisting of opposing climates from the Swiss Alps to Egypt on a marathon mission to raise some sponsor dollars for UNICEF whilst sightseeing!
Fittingly the final lap takes place in Miller’s home town at Albert Park Lake Melbourne (Melway Reference: 2K G4) as a post Christmas event (Monday 27th, 8.30am) that celebrates the determination of human spirit and gives folks a chance to run off their roasts!
Online entries for the RunLikeCrazy marathon will close this FRIDAY 24th DECEMBER 12pm. There will be NO entries on the day, so hurry & enter now to avoid missing out!
