The Mission this month entails adventure, exploration, endeavour and the acquisition of new skills using the same methods as actors studying and training for their next role.
The magnetism and charisma inherent to all great actors is derived largely from personality but is also a trait cultivated through experience. Their wealth of culture accumulated from studying multiple disciplines and assuming varied characters for their craft.
Mentored by coaches to develop genuine skill to perform with earnest, our favourite stars devote themselves to exploring different dimensions of their physical, mental and spiritual self. Reading memoirs to assimilate to a role an actor garner’s great insights that collectively add to their own wisdom, style, skill, perspective, attitude and empathy for others.
Objective: Use the movie method of Role Play to develop your personal dimensions and acquire new skills!
Role Play Options: Choose to write your own script and character, use your favourite films and characters as inspiration or work with real life characters and read their memoirs.
Brief: List the dimensions of your character – their personality, style, skills and so forth then make a separate list of resources that will help develop and cultivate these qualities within you.
Example: I admire the actions and attitude of the fictional character Lara Croft and draw inspiration from the movies to pursue various self development endeavours including- studying Kendo, learning about archaeology, exploring culture through travel, acquiring an appreciation for art and building a library of literary classics.
My list continues but these virtues are enough to express the concept of ‘Character-based Skill Acquisition’ and hopefully provide inspiration for your own Role Play.
