A basic instinct to ‘fetch’ has dogs diving diligently into the ocean on a retrieve and rescue mission that for them is more like a game. Lifeguards are training dogs to become lifesavers this summer on beaches around the Italian coast. Dogs make great lifeguards because, essentially, they are retrievers by nature. So far, twelve schools share training facilities with canine counterparts and rescue success rates support potential for more.
